Marie Betel B. de Robles, Marie Yvette B. de Robles, Faith S. Maranan

The development of a database management and classification system for monitoring and operational evaluation of Hoya species is presented. It provides wide-ranging and innovative functionality to gather, edit, analyze and publish botanical data, optimizing its use for the widest possible range of research outputs. In the classification system, image processing techniques were employed to extract features of Hoya species. These computed features, together with the user-defined features, were then matched to the existing Hoya database. The database structures and web-based query interface are generalized software designs that can be adapted to cover other regions and provide a national scale system for early detection, tracking, and strategic management of Hoya species.
