A Web Application for Flood Simulation and Visualization in Laguna de Bay Using the D8 Algorithm

In recent years, simulation of natural phenomena has taken great attention in the research community. A specific area of which is on flood simulation. This paper illustrates the development of an elevation-based web application for flood simulation and visualization. The application was developed with the use the open-source Quantum GIS, and an online web mapping service. Calculating flow directions using the D8 algorithm is described as well as estimating the runoff using the SCS TR-55 model. The result of the study shows that GIS, geographical data and hydrological models can be integrated to solve hydrological problems.
